Vocabulary

  • abecedarian – adj. 1. Arranged alphabetically, 2. Rudimentary; elementary.
  • interstitial – adj. occurring in or being an interval or intervening space or segment.
  • inveterate – adj. having a particular habit, activity, or interest that is long established and unlikely to change.
  • loquacious – adj. Tending to talk a great deal; talkative.
  • diaphanous – adj. Characterized by such fineness of texture as to permit seeing through.
  • adumbration – v. To foreshadow vaguely.
  • mortify – v. 1) cause (someone) to feel embarrassed, ashamed, or humiliated. 2) Subdue (the body or it’s needs and desires) by self-denial or discipline.
  • dyspeptic – adj. Of or having indigestion or consequent irritability or depression.
  • verisimilitude – n. The appearance of being true or real.
  • veridical – adj. Truthful
  • portcullis – n. A string, heavy greating that can be lowered down grooves on each side of a gateway to block it.
  • sepulchre – n. A small room or monument, cut in rock or built of stone in which a dead person is laid or buried.
  • unpunctual – adj. Late, or habitually late.
  • imbodiment – n. The state of being given a body (to a spirit).
  • queerness – n. the state or condition of being strange.
  • squalidly – adj. (of a place) extremely dirty and unpleasant, esp. as a result of poverty and neglect.
  • bovine – adj. (of a person). Slow-moving and dull, witted.
  • emulation – n. Ambition or endeavor to equal or excel others in achievement
  • rectifactory – adj. of rectify; to set right/remedy
  • incontinent – adj. lacking self-restraint; uncontrolled.
  • Ascetic – adj. characterized by or suggesting the practice of severe self-discipline and abstention from all forms of indulgence, typically for religious reasons.
  • irrespective – adj. not taking (something) into account regardless of.
  • morose – adj. Havina a sullen and gloomy disposition.
  • conversion – n. 1. The process of changing or causing something to change from one form to another. 2. Changing one’s religion or beliefs.
  • qualitatively – adv. with regard to the quality or quality of something rather than it’s quantity.
  • ubiquitous – adj. present, appearing, or found everywhere.
  • glib – adj. showing little forethought or preparation.
  • ostracize – v. Exclude (someone) from a society or group.
  • intransigent – adj. Unwilling or refusing to change one’s views or to agree about something.
  • knell – n. A stroke or sound of a bell especially when rung slowly (as for a death, funeral, or disaster).
  • demeaning – adj. causing someone to lose their dignity and respect of others.
  • holistic – adj. relating to ur concerned with wholes or with complete systems rather than with the analysis of, treatment of, or dissection into parts.
  • torrid – adj. hot and dry.
  • vicegerent – n. A person exercising delegated power on behalf of a sovereign ruler.
  • reveille – n. A signal sounded especially on a bugle or drum to wake personnel in the armed forces.
